Della qualified in 1991 gaining the NEBDN national qualification. She has over 20 years' experience in all aspects of dentistry and manages our large team with great efficiency as well as dealing with any patient concerns and planning the future developments for the practice. She completed the BTEC Diploma in Practice Management with distinction in 2007.
We have a great team of Dental Care professionals. this includes trainee dental nurses working towards their National Diploma. All our dental care professionals regularly undertake professional development and are register with the General Dental Council. All our nurses have different interests in their scope of practice.
Joanne Ashington is our Head Nurse at the Studio, Jo looks after all the stock and co ordinates all the surgeries.
Justine leads our reception team. Justine joined the practice in February 2005. She run's and trains our reception teams at both practices to ensure things run smoothly.Justine is also our account manager who is responsible for the management of patient accounts.
Stephen has been working in Benfleet since 2000. He has special interests in orthodontics, teaching and all aspects of family dentistry. He became a vocational trainer in 2007 for the East of England Deanery and an honorary tutor for London & Barts Dental Hospital in 2008. He teaches and lectures to dental students at Southend Outreach. He became a clinical educator and part time lecturer for the oral hygiene programme run through Essex University in 2008. He completed his teaching qualification in dental and medical education in 2009. Stephen has cared for many families for over 20 years.
He was a clinical assistant in orthodontics for over 20 years at Basildon, Oldchurch and Queen’s hospitals. He offers NHS and private orthodontics and takes referrals from local practices for orthodontics.
Paula is Stephen’s sister. She joined the team in 2001 and has worked in Essex since 1985. She has been providing pain free dental care to some of her patients for over 25 years. Paula became a joint vocational trainer in 2011 and is also a clinical educator for the oral hygiene programme run through Essex University. She has just completed her teaching qualification in dental and medical education.
Alistair spent 3 years in Bristol studying for his first degree and then went to Whitechapel to study dentistry and qualified in 2008. He spent his training year at The Benfleet Dental Clinic and has remained here since, providing general dentistry, orthodontics and a full range of cosmetic dentistry. Alistair has completed many postgraduate courses in all aspects of restorative dentistry as well as completing a course in implants.
Tara went to Kings College London to study dentistry qualifying in 2007. She joined the practice in 2009 following placements in both hospital and general practice. Tara is a joint vocational trainer on the East of England deanery with Paula Denny. Having completed her teaching qualification in Dental and Medical education she is a clinical dental tutor for the Barts and London outreach clinic. Tara has just completed a postgraduate diploma in Conscious Sedation from Guys hospital and has a special interest in treating nervous patients, oral surgery and all aspects of family dentistry.
Lindsey also did her training year at our practices and has stayed on part-time in the team as an associate. She did her first degree, then a Phd before studying dentistry at Barts & London Dental School. She qualified in 2010. Lindsey is about to start teaching at Southend Outreach, which shows how highly regarded she was by her tutors at the university. Lindsey enjoys all aspects of family dentistry and has attended many postgraduate courses since qualifying.
Gareth is our multi award winning orthodontist. He completed his first degree in dentistry in 2005 at the University of Wales, Cardiff, where he won the Magdalen Morgan Scholarship, the JWS Laboratory Award and the Dental Defence Union Audit award. He then joined Liverpool University in 2009 where he completed his specialist degree in Orthodontics. Here he won the Liverpool Orthodontic Shield for the presentation of best treated patients in the Mersey Deanery, a Membership in Orthodontics case prize for the work presented at examination and the Geoffrey Fletcher Scholarship to undertake further research in America. His research in America is on-going with the aim of improving care for younger patients and those needing combined orthodontic-surgical treatment. Gareth’s research helps predict natural growth patterns in younger patients so treatment can be optimally timed to achieve the very best results.
Luke spent 3 years studying Biomedical Sciences at Newcastle University before moving to Barts and The London to Study Dentistry in 2011. During his studies Luke won multiple awards for his work within the community concentrating on prevention of oral diseases. Luke subsequently joined The Benfleet Dental Clinic and Studio in 2015. Luke’s particular interests are in oral surgery and treating anxious patients.
After graduating from the University of Oxford with a masters in Molecular Biochemistry Cerridwen went on to obtain a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from Bart’s and the London. Cerridwen was kept on as one of our associates following her vocational training year. Alongside working at the practice Cerrie works at The University of Essex as a lecturer in Health and Human Sciences training future generations of Dental therapist and hygienists. Cerrie is passionate about improving oral health within the community and enjoys all aspects of general dentistry.
Ben is a friendly and enthusiastic member of the team. He will happily take the time to discuss any dental issues you may have, and particularly enjoys helping more nervous patients feel at ease. Graduating from Barts and The London Dental School, Ben has a special interest in Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, and Dental Pathology, and holds a Bsc (Hons) in Forensic Biology.
Outside of dentistry, Ben is a keen Saxophonist, and has performed all over the United Kingdom and Europe, including a spell aboard the Queen Elizabeth II ocean liner.
Following his graduation as a dental technician in 2001 at Guys Hospital London , after 3 years of training he started working within the Orthodontic/Paediatric dental department where he continued to work as a Specialist Orthodontic dental technician for 15 years. In 2009 he passed the occlusal indices and PAR scoring course in Cardiff University and in 2014 he passed an evidence based orthognathic model surgery training at King's College where he continued to work on surgery cases. Andrew later passed the Orthodontic Therapist Course in 2016 with distinction and gained his Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh Orthodontic therapist certificate. He has a masterclass in orthodontic wire bending also with the Royal College of Surgeons. He is studying for a City and Guild teaching certificate in education. Outside of work Andrew enjoys spending time with his family, mountain biking and gardening.
Having qualified from the University of Liverpool with a Bachelors in Dental Surgery and in addition a BSc in Physiology, Daniel was kept on as one of our associates following his vocational training whilst at university Daniel won the finals prize for ‘highest achievement in restorative dentistry’. Daniel enjoys the daily interaction of working with the general public and aims to build up a long term rapport with his patients. He enjoys carrying out all aspects of preventative and restorative dentistry and is very good at putting his patients at ease prior to treatment. Daniel looks forward to meeting you at the practice.
Robert qualified from Barts & The London School for Medicine & Dentistry with an honours degree and was awarded the prestigious Evelyn Sprawson prize for overall achievement throughout his studies. He has a keen interest in restorative and cosmetic dentistry. Robert is also a lecturer at the University of Essex, teaching dental hygiene and therapy on the foundation and BSc degree courses. He is well-versed in orofacial pain and part of the Medical Advisory Board of the Trigeminal Neuralgia Association.
Vanessa quallified in 1995 gaining the NEDBN qualification. She has over 20 years experience in all aspects of dentistry, she assists Della in the running of the practices including managing our team. When the practice opened in 2000 Vanessa helped co ordinate the set up of the practice and was Stephen's nurse for many years before that.
Will be joining our team in May 2019
